Description :
The GATFFEST Film Festival (formerly the Greater August Town Film Festival) originated from the Greater August Town Film Project, now rebranded as the UWI Community Film Project. GATFFEST was created as an outlet for graduates of the UWI Community Film Project to showcase the films that were produced during the training course. The inaugural annual Greater August Town Film Festival (GATFFEST) was held on June 20-23, 2013 and included films from inner-city youths who graduated from the film project. The event screened their work along with that of other local and international independent filmmakers. The four-day festival was jointly held at The University of the West Indies and the Edna Manley School for Visual and Performing Arts.
Since then, the festival has grown significantly, from a 3-day to an 8-day festival, receiving numerous international and local submissions every year. GATFFEST serves as a platform for the exposure of film making talents of directors, producers, casts and crews. It is an opportunity to showcase new and emerging filmmakers who are telling stories through a mix of short films and documentaries. The film festival features premieres, workshops, community film nights, special events and panel discussions with stakeholders in tourism, academia and the film industry.
